19 year old Kenyan Songstress Nikita Kering on Friday, June 25 released her debut EP, “A SIDE OF ME” and it may be one of the best albums you will listen to this year. You can tell that it took a lot of time and preparation to put this project and I honestly hope that it gets all the recognition it deserves. Unfortunately, so many times we have equated African artists to their very successful counterparts in the western world and it is something that somehow become a very acceptable thing to do for instance you will probably hear folks comparing Nikita to Beyonce, Ariana Grande or even Alicia Keys. This is probably because they many folks in this part of the work have always sought western validation in almost all aspects of life especially in pursuit of public opinion.
I strongly disagree if anyone compares Nikita Kering to any another artist. I think she amazing and she even when she may look up to other artists, she is just wonderfully unique.
She is currently flying high with her single EX which is off the new EP, A Side Of Me. The album has seven tracks to it and all of them have the best of the award winning singer fully embodied in them with the best of her vocal ability and perfection.
It is not one bit surprising that some people have already marked Nikita to be the Beyonce of East Africa and I think this is unfair. She is Nikita Kering; amazing, eloquent and even when she may idolize and look up to her, she is just uniquely beautiful and we all should support her without equating her to anyone else.
Nikita has already had a very successful journey even when she is just setting stage for her professional career and in the recent years she has captured the adoration of so many fans. She has been singing from a very young age has shared the stage with popular artistes like Emmy Kosgey. She has spent a lot of time working on her music through her school and is also an actress having performed at several plays and school productions.
With guidance from seasoned singer Eric Wanaina, she has already received accolades for her work at home and abroad. In 2019 she became the youngest East African to win two awards at the AFRIMAS; Best Female in Eastern Africa and Revelation of the African Continent. This amazing songbird was also a top finalist in Mr. Eazi’s initiative EmPawa Africa and even even when she did not make it to South Africa because of her school schedule, she has proven to be such an exception and always amazing songbird for whom the sky is the limit.
