The Resident District Commissioner Jinja District Joseph Eric Sakwa is expected to appear at Jinja High Court today to face charges against him of manslaughter, stealing 80,000/- and beer worthy 800,000/-. Sakwa was arrested on Friday by the RPC Kira Region Nkore Paul from NBS Kodhe’yo 89.4 FM premises. He had appeared in a radio talk show with the Jinja District Chairman Titus Kisambira and State Minister for Local government Jenipher Namuyangu. He was taken to Jinja court before magistrate Happy Ann Kobusingye and charged with manslaughter, stealing 80,000/- and beer worthy 800,000/-. He was remanded to Kirinya prison until 13th May 2020.

However, on Saturday 25th April Jinja residents learnt of the possibility of bringing Sakwa back to court. A crowd of his supporters gathered at Jinja Court to witness the court proceedings. They were seen carrying placards in support of the imprisoned RDC. This later led into some running battles with the security in Jinja.

Security was beefed today morning to stop people from moving towards Jinja court and unnecessary movement to the central business area. Eric Sakwa was expected to appear in court at 9.:00 am, later changed to 10:00 am and then to 12 noon but by 1:00 pm, he had not yet been presented in court. There is no open court room at Jinja court premises but a few high profile individuals and journalists are gathered at the Jinja court.
