NBS Kodhe’yo started as a political pledge 2001 by Hon. Nathan Simonson Nabeta the Member of Parliament for Jinja East. He promised the voters that he would start up a radio station to help in spreading the word on development, political, social, health and economical issues in the constituency and Busoga at large. On the 28th June 2002, NBS Kodhe’yo 89.4 FM was officially launched by HE. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the president of the Republic of Uganda.
Having realized that Busoga region didn’t have reliable and effective radio broadcasting in English, it was therefore decided to start up an Fm station to address this problem and 89 Smart FM was started in 2008. NBS and Smart FM cover districts in Busoga region like Jinja, Iganga, Kamuli, Mayuge, Kaliro, Buyende, Luuka, Namutumba, Namayingo, Bugiri, parts Buganda like Mukono, Buikwe and Kayunga, then far eastern like Tororo, Mbale, Kibuku, Butaleja, Sironko, Bududa and Palisa.
Programming on NBS and Smart FM caters for the audience needs in those areas mentioned. Both stations have the transmission power station at Wanyange hill, broadcasting on a 3KW transmitter and the onair studios in the heart of Jinja City, at Plot 12A Nizam Road, Nabeta Plaza.

NBS Radio was started as a political pledge to serve mainly the audience in the Jinja East constituency. It was therefore, considered a community based radio station. It was registered as NBS Kodhe’yo 89.4 FM and chose the caller name of NBS Kodhe’yo for “Empuliziganya Eyenkabi”
Smart FM was designed to deliver the best programs with Smart ideas, it was registered and incorporated in late 2008 as Smart Broadcasting Services Ltd and choose the caller name as “89 SMART FM” for the Great Hits More Music.

Sponsorship: The advertiser attaches his image and interest to the already existing program.
It gives long term benefits because the presenters repeatedly air out the message and usually sponsorship is for a longer period.
Customized program: The advertiser directly communicates to the audience the message he wishes to deliver.
The advertiser gives his own message the way he wants it, gets an immediate feedback and may address it if he wishes.
DJ Mention: The presenter(s) communicates the advertiser’s message to the audience.
The presenter gives personal touch to the message and approaches the same message from different angles from time to time.
Spot message: A constant pre-recorded message is aired as and when the advertiser wishes.
The advertiser benefits from a constant and altered message that is pre-recorded.
