The urge for a public University in Busoga takes a new direction
During the Reference Point show on 89SmartFM hosted by Grace Mwesigwa, a campaign of #Busoga Education Matters #We want a Public University in Busoga Now was adopted in quest for a Public University in Busoga.
Former member of parliament Milton Muwuma who was also once a guild president of Busoga University, in an interview during the show says ” I am NRM and I work for the secretariate of NRM but I don’t feel motivated enough to mobilize for NRM in the
forthcoming elections when Busoga upto now is lacking a Public University”. There’s no doubt that there’s the urge of Busoga sub region owning a public University just like other regions do.
Dr. Frank Nabwiso also added his voice onto the same campaign by tasking the leadership of Busoga University to explain what went wrong and to why things are not being electified as soon as possible. He talks about the same university as being the center of politics at the expense of Basoga.
At the same point most Basoga are of a view that it may not necessarily be Busoga University to be made public but all they is a Public University in Busoga sub region since this will also give a chance to the less privileged who can’t meet the costs of living in Kampala.
The moderator highlighted that the cost of living in Kampala,i.e accommodation, transport and food when summed up are higher than the tuition paid at the University which is hard for the economically disadvantaged but academically talented students to access. Therefore the more reasons Busoga sub region should be granted a Public University.
