The new dates were announced on Wednesday by Alex Kakooza, the education ministry permanent secretary.
In case of any changes, Kakooza said, the ministry will communicate to the public as soon as possible.
“We are doing everything possible in consultation with stakeholders to have our children go back to school,” he said.
He also reaffirmed the ministry position that they did not close pre-primary (nursery) indefinitely but will be opened with guidance from the health ministry and scientists.
“Nursery children are fast spreaders. Also, they are prone to respiratory diseases according to scientists. Therefore, we cannot put the lives of such people in danger,” he said.
He made the remarks just after addressing journalists at Uganda Media Centre regarding the phased reopening of schools to semi-candidates and the subsequent classes
Kakooza has also warned schools against allowing non-semi candidates to report to school adding that, “We have a clear schedule and schools should follow that. If we find other classes in school without following our calendar, you might not like the consequences.”
According to recently announced schedule for reopening, each category of students will be reporting to school at different at a time.
Semi-candidates reported back to school on Monday (March 1, 2021) and these are expected to break off on May 21, 2021.

Both Primary Four and Five pupils will break off on June 4, 2021, according to the released schedule.
