The leader of opposition in Parliament Matthias Mpungu, has written to the speaker of parliament Jacob Oulanyah to call a crisis sitting of parliament over fuel crisis in the country.
‘’The country is currently facing a fuel crisis. Several fuel station across the country have shut down while those with stock are charging exorbitant fees.’’ The letter from the LOP reads
The letter further reads that ‘’there is a looming risk of a country shut down in the event that urgent interventions are not undertaken to address the crisis.’’
In a letter dated 19th January 2022, the office wants the speaker to recall Members of Parliament from recess to share their experiences in their respective constituencies, offer leadership, engage government and contribute to solving the crisis.
Ealier this week, the office of clerk to parliament said that Parliament would resume sittings on Thursday, 27 January 2022, However due to fuel crisis in the country, the office of the opposition is calling for an earlier sitting to tackle the matter.
