During this season, a number of people travel to their villages to join their family members in one big Christmas party and new year celebration

Home security is, without a doubt, one of the most important things to sort if you are planning a Christmas holiday in the village with the rest of your family or vacation off your busy schedule this festive season.

During this season, a number of people travel to their villages to join their family members in one big Christmas party and new year celebration.

Some of the city dwellers own posh homes and ensuring their safety while away will be a priority. Putting the posh houses aside, most urban residents don’t own houses they rent.

Safety of your property, while you are away this festive season, should be a top on agenda because the landlords or security guards won’t do much.

Imagine you come back from wherever you had gone after the Christmas holiday and your home is a mess! I doubt you would love that.

Some people may have probably sorted the security issue while away and others are still clueless.

Do you want to keep the burglar away from your property while miles away? We have got you some tips on how you can do just that until your back from the merry-making holiday.

I suspect you already know our number one suggestion, the CCTV camera… ohh! Yeah, you’re right but we even have more suggestions for you because not all of us can afford CCTV cameras.

But for starters, CCTV cameras are the most recommended choice because they help you monitor activities in and around your house premises.

Some other security systems you need to install for safety reasons include strong quality padlocks encrypted with burglar alarms, razor alarms, and electric fences a long term solution.

Security systems like CCTV cameras are affordable depending on specifications ranging from sh2.5m to sh3m and above

Here are some other security systems you can consider.

Burglar (alarm) padlocks

These padlocks are hard for burglars to break. They work with motion sensors and can detect images in ranges up to 20 metres. I guess these padlocks can be of enormous help if you can’t afford CCTV cameras.

The alarm padlocks range from sh350,000. They don’t have fixed prices because every type is valued at a different price. I suggest you visit a security accessories shop.

The electric fence security system

The electric fence uses shocks to deter intruders from encroaching on your house to carry out their burglary work. This kind of security system can protect your property well because they also have security alarm systems. They are good at protecting isolated property.

The razor wire fences are widely used fence systems that are made of galvanized steel blades that make it hard for thieves to climb your wall or for when they are trying to escape.

Use of automatic switches

Someone can easily notice you’re away if your lights are off at night. So a burglar, in this case, will have all the time to plan when to break into your house and take your precious belongings. But imagine if the lights automatically turn on at night and off during the day? The burglars will be afraid to break in because they may assume you’re in.

According to experts, automatic switches haven’t been well embraced in Uganda. However, experts suggest you can consult a security system company in the country for guidance

By the way, these automatic switches also save energy because they automatically turn lights on and off according to how they are set to operate.

Neighbourhood watch

This is one traditional yet very friendly way to keep criminals away. Well, not all neighbours go to their villages for Christmas. In fact, some are city-born.

So by asking your neighbour to keep watch over your house while you are away this festive season, would be a wonderful option. It is cost-friendly and only requires trust and friendship with your neighbours. I guess you better start working on a better relationship with your neighbours.

However, security experts’ advice that people should look out for long term security systems to avoid the hustle of always finding means to safeguard your home while you are away.
