President Museveni has assured Ugandans that there is no need to worry of their security, in the wake of the attempted assassination on former Works and Transport Minister, Gen Edward Katumba Wamala.

Unknown assailants traveling on two motorcycles last week sprayed Gen Katumba’s vehicle with bullets, instantly killing his daughter Brenda Nantongo and driver Haruna Kayondo.

Since the incident, many people have expressed concern over the security of Ugandans, considering that an entire four star general had been targeted.

Addressing the country on Sunday evening, the president assured Ugandans that security is doing everything possible to bring the situation to normal.

“When something like this happens it is because whole country was relaxed. We are now mobilized. The assailants did their terror using our laxity. We are mobilized. When you provoke us and we wake up, we will get you ,”Museveni said.

President Museveni however noted that everyone has to be alert and cautious of their security, adding that be it a four start general or normal civilians can be attacked.

“If the General and the population are not alert, then they can be attacked. In the case of Gen Katumba he also made some mistakes because apparently, he was moving without a follow car. He was moving with one escort and a driver. I didn’t know that. A four-star general should be having a follow car. But even then the bodyguard reacted and that’s how the killers ran away. Two people died but he (guard) saved the General and himself,” he noted.

Museveni also dismissed reports of the many unresolved murders in the country.

According to the president, whereas some have never been concluded, many of them have been dealt with and suspects arraigned in court.

“The line of the unending crimes never concluded is not entirely correct. I have a report by CID with all these cases. That line that cases are not concluded is not wholly correct,” Museveni said
