According to the FDC chairman, Wasswa Birigwa, Amuriat was sprayed at close range by the Police as he was lowering his window to speak to a police officer called Abraham Asimwe, following a standoff over the route the FDC candidate should take to his next rally.
Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate Patrick Oboi Amuriat was rushed to hospital after being pepper sprayed in his vehicle on Monday.
The incident happened at Muwayo village along the Bugiri- Tororo road.
He was set to campaign in Tororo, Mbale and Bukedea districts.
By the time he was taken out of his vehicle, Amuriat could not stand or speak, forcing the Police to help him into a Police pickup which was effectively used as an ambulance.
FDC party officials had wanted him to be taken to hospital using his official car but Police insisted on using theirs
