Farmers in Busia district have accused extension staffs and village agents for not helping them interns of new practices and technologies in order to improve on food security in the district.
While speaking to same farmers from Busitema and others from the Busia district farmers association like Wafula Steven, they blamed the extension staffs more for not having preparatory workshops with farmers in order to identify the key issues as pertaining farming causing food insecurity in the district, that they have resorted to sitting in their offices at the sub counties waiting for their salarie
According to the district production officer for Busia, Wakapisi Fred. said that on food security , the district is at 86%, despite of the fact that previously there were affected the cassava mosaic and brown streak virus diseases.
This wiped out all the existing cassava varieties and yet cassava and maize are the staple foods in the district, however there is still a lot needed to be done with our farmers, ‘he added’ From Busia by martin.
