In preparation for reopening of schools in January 2022, the Education service Commission has said that it will conduct the nationwide teachers’ validation exercise next year, to ascertain teachers who have left the teaching profession and those the country has lost to Covid-19 to have them replaced.
A number of teachers associations including the Uganda National Teacher’s Union, have been putting pressure on government to start recruiting teachers ahead of reopening, claiming many teachers have abandoned the profession.
Addressing journalists at Uganda media centre, the Chairperson of the Education Commission, Samuel Luboga said that government will traverse all districts across the country for the exercise.
He says that this will give the government an opportunity to replace teachers who abandoned the profession and those who succumbed to Covid-19.
Meanwhile, he says that the new e-recruitment system takes effect next year where all teachers will be required to upload their profiles on the portal.
Officials from the Education service Commission yesterday said that this exercise will kick off next year in January when schools reopen.
