The RDC for Busia district, Kalikwani Paul has warned clearing Agents at Busia border customs against hiring their jackets to people who patrol them as clearing Agents and they end up conning the business community at the border.
He added that Busia district is facing several challenges and among which includes, that security at the border has done a disservice by allowing wrong doers enter the country and also traders at Sofia market have become so hostile to vacate the borderline due to this covid-19 pandemic among others.
It was also disclosed that a total number of 170 business people have lost their money in billions at the border due to these purported clearing Agents.
The Business community at the border line have severally raised this concern to the security committee in Busia district, but according to the resolutions made, is to make sure that all clearing Agents are to be registered by URA and with CUSTOMS at the border to avoid impersonation.
And also by 1st. october all traders would have left Sofia market and other small markets to the main market which is yet to be completed.
This was during the security meeting which was held at the offices of the RDC in Busia town.
