The ministry Agriculture Animal Industry and Fisheries has given out fisherlinkings totaling to 45000 and 1.6 tonnes of starter feeds, valued at 19million shillings, and these will be distributed to 25 fish farmers from the entire district of Busia.
This has been confirmed by the district Fisheries officer, Egesa Eugene, and he said that fish farming in Busia district, it’s doing very well because it is a fish eating community, and these supplements on the fish which is obtained from the lakes.
However, Egesa Eugene also added that among the several improvements, the farmers are also experiencing some challenges among which are consistent buying of feeds, predators which come and enter ponds and eat the fish and also farmers lack enough skills to manage their ponds.
According to some beneficiaries like Juma Wa Obonyo from masafu, Esther luke from lunyo, Philip Adome from Buteba, they praised the government of Uganda through the ministry Agriculture Animal Industry and Fisheries for the support and they encouraged some other people to join fish farming because it’s market is ready.
