A new study has revealed that girls were the most affected by the closure of schools during the lockdown with teenage pregnancy rising by 45%
In a study carried out by Twaweza indicates that 79% of the 1500 respondents interviewed reported increased cases of teenage pregnancy among the community during the lockdown.
Civil society organisations have asked the government to formulate a special policy which will help to adress the plight of teenage girls who got pregnant during the Covid-19 lockdown.
According to lead researcher at Twaweza Marie Nanyanzi the report also indicated that 2 out the 3 citizens reported that the closure of schools affected the girls most.
